<p>With the Stanley Cup Final in danger of slipping away, Edmonton Oilers veteran <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/34" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/34">Corey Perry</a> stepped up to address his teammates during the first intermission. </p><p>His words made a big impact and helped spark the team's three-goal second-period comeback in Thursday night's <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3299555" href="https://thescore.com/news/3299555">Game 4</a> overtime victory over the Florida Panthers, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3948" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3948">Leon Draisaitl</a> told reporters postgame.</p><p>"We wanted to come out strong tonight, but they put us on our heels early," Draisaitl <a href="https://www.nhl.com/oilers/video/post-raw-draisaitl-pickard-06-12-25-6374217142112">said</a>. "We were kinda lollygagging around a little bit. Certainly not the time to lollygag around, right? Especially after getting spanked in Game 3.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"Corey spoke up. When he speaks up, you listen, and you do what he says. We did a great job of grabbing it, grabbing some momentum and keeping it."</p><p>The Oilers trailed 3-0 after the first period and were outshot 17-7 through 20 minutes. Edmonton battled back in the second with three goals to tie the game, and ultimately won 5-4 in overtime.</p><p>"I'm not gonna share exactly what he said right now, but the message is that he's been in these moments. He's not a guy that speaks up or yells at guys all the time, that's not his character," Draisaitl said. "So, you know when a guy like that, with that many games, that much experience - he's won everything there is to win, he knows how to win - when he speaks up, you listen. It grabs your attention. He's a heck of a leader."</p><p>Perry has turned back the clock during the playoffs. The 40-year-old has nine goals and 13 points in 20 games and is tied for third in playoff goals. It's the second-most goals he's scored in a postseason in his career.</p><p>Perry won the Stanley Cup in his second season with the Anaheim Ducks back in 2007. He's since gone to five more Cup Finals from 2020-22, and 2024-25, and is looking for an elusive second Stanley Cup.</p><p>The Oilers are the first road team to overcome a 3-0 deficit and win a game in the championship round since the Montreal Canadiens won Game 5 of the 1919 Stanley Cup Final against the Seattle Metropolitans, according to <a href="https://x.com/SNstats/status/1933345946886132090">Sportsnet Stats</a>.</p><p>Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final goes Saturday night in Edmonton.</p>

<p>Winnipeg Jets goaltender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3997" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3997">Connor Hellebuyck</a> won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP and the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender, the league announced Thursday.</p><p>Hellebuyck is the first American netminder and the eighth goaltender to be named MVP. Carey Price was the most recent goalie to win both awards in one season (2015). Hellebuyck is the first player in Jets/Atlanta Thrashers franchise history to win the Hart.</p><p>The 32-year-old posted a .925 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average in 63 games this season. He went 47-12-3, leading the Jets to their first Presidents' Trophy. He became the seventh goalie to record 45 or more wins in a season and the first since Braden Holtby in 2016.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Hellebuyck won his second consecutive Vezina Trophy and the third of his career. He received 31 of 32 first-place votes from general managers.</p><p>No goalie had won back-to-back Vezinas since Martin Brodeur in 2007 and 2008, and Hellebuyck is only the 13th netminder to win on three occasions. All but one of the goalies in the exclusive club are enshrined in the Hall of Fame.</p><p>Hellebuyck joins Dominik Hasek (six), Brodeur (four), and Patrick Roy (three) as the only goalies to win the Vezina at least three times since the league changed the voting process prior to the 1981-82 season. The Vezina previously honored the goalie(s) who had a minimum of 25 games played on the team that allowed the fewest goals.</p><p>Edmonton Oilers center <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3948" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3948">Leon Draisaitl</a> and Tampa Bay Lightning winger <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3322" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3322">Nikita Kucherov</a> were the other Hart finalists. <p>The Forsyth County Commission approved agreements for a $3-billion project that includes construction of an NHL-ready arena.</p><p>The vote Wednesday clears a major hurdle for the CEO of Krause Sports and Entertainment, Vernon Krause, who is eyeing an NHL expansion franchise in the Atlanta area.</p><p>"This vote marks a pivotal moment," Krause said, according to <a href="https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/gathering-south-forsyth-nhl-team-development-meeting">Fox 5 Atlanta</a>. "We can go to (NHL commissioner Gary Bettman) and ask him to start a process (for expansion), which we're hopeful he will do."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The NHL has had two franchises in Atlanta, and both relocated. The Thrashers joined the league in 1999 and played in Atlanta for 11 seasons before becoming the Winnipeg Jets. Atlanta also had the Flames from 1972-80 before moving to Calgary. Atlanta is the only city in the NHL's modern history to have two teams relocate to different locations.</p><p>"We’re closer than we’ve ever been to bringing NHL hockey back to our region," Krause said, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.</p><p>Krause already owns the land where the project would be constructed. Forsyth County is a little more than 40 miles outside of Atlanta. Krause confirmed the project will be built only if Atlanta is awarded an expansion franchise, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.</p><p>Bettman has said he doesn't believe past failures in Atlanta reflect on the league's future decision regarding a third expansion team in the city.</p><p>"It's a different place than when the Flames and the Thrashers left, in terms of how big the city is, how robust it is, the sporting interest," Bettman said in May, according to <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/third-times-a-charm-bettman-discusses-possible-atlanta-expansion/">Sportsnet's Luke Fox</a>. "I don't think the prior two visits have any bearing on whether or not we would go back, if all the other pieces that are referred to were to be put together."</p><p>The NHL has expanded twice in recent history. The Vegas Golden Knights were added in 2017, and the Seattle Kraken joined the league in 2021. The Arizona Coyotes relocated to Utah before last season.</p><p>The league currently stands at 32 teams, which is tied with the NFL for the most among major professional North American leagues.</p>

He averaged 18:15 during the regular season but just 11:08 in the postseason. He notched two goals and three points in six playoff contests.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 5-foot-9 pivot is set to become a restricted free agent July 1.</p><p>Rossi established himself as an NHL regular in 2023-24 when he totaled 21 goals and 40 points and finished sixth in Calder Trophy voting. <p>PWHL Vancouver selected defender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15825" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15825">Ashton Bell</a> from the Ottawa Charge with the first pick in the league's expansion draft Monday.</p><p>Vancouver chose to pick first after winning a lottery conducted by PWHL executive vice president of hockey operations Jayna Hefford earlier Monday.</p><p>Bell recorded three goals and six points in 27 regular-season games and was a key piece of Ottawa's top-pairing as the Charge reached the PWHL Finals. The 25-year-old was taken eighth overall in the 2023 PWHL Draft by Ottawa, which lost in four games to Minnesota the 2025 finals.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>PWHL Seattle selected defender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15812" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15812">Aneta Tejralova</a> and forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15717" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15717">Hannah Bilka</a> with the second and third picks.</p><p>Tejralova notched one goal and 10 points in 30 contests. The 29-year-old captains Team Czechia internationally, and she was initially selected 41st overall in the first PWHL draft by the Charge.</p><p>Bilka recorded five goals and 11 points in 16 games last season after being selected fourth overall by Boston in last year's draft. "I don't think the moment ever gets too big for him."</p><p>Marchand leads all active players with 10 career goals in the Stanley Cup Final, including three through two games this postseason. I saw that a ton from him in Boston, and it's way better seeing it here."</p><p>Tkachuk added that Florida kept the locker room light despite the Oilers' dramatic tying goal in the final minute of the third period.</p><p>"It was the opposite of what you guys probably thought was going on in the locker room," Tkachuk said, per Cotsonika. "We were upbeat, joking around, picking guys who we thought were going to score. We were having some fun."</p>

That deal begins in the 2025-26 campaign.</p><p>The Avalanche signed O'Connor as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Denver in 2018. He's accumulated 45 goals and 103 points in 343 appearances over parts of seven seasons in Colorado.</p>

The Red Wings went 89-86-23 under Lalonde and failed to make the playoffs in his three seasons at the helm.</p><p>The 52-year-old won two Stanley Cups as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021. He was on Jon Cooper's staff from 2018-22 before being hired by the Red Wings.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Lalonde is a two-time Coach of the Year in the lower ranks. He claimed the award in 2012 with the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers and in 2015 with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.</p><p>Lane Lambert was hired by the Seattle Kraken as the team's new head coach after one season as an associate coach with the Leafs.</p><p>Assistants Marc Savard and Mike Van Ryn remain on Berube's staff from last season.</p>

<p>Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill confirmed Friday that Pete DeBoer's postgame comments about goaltender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8282" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8282">Jake Oettinger</a> played a role in the head coach's firing.</p><p>"The events that took place, that's a component of it," Nill said. "But there's other things that take place also. It's one part of it, but there's other things that take place during the season. My job is to analyze everything during the year, where things are at, even the prior years ... it was a component of it. But it wasn't the final decision when we made this decision."</p><p>DeBoer pulled Oettinger after he allowed two goals on the first two shots he faced in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final versus the Edmonton Oilers. The veteran bench boss explained his reasoning after the Stars lost the contest, pointing to his star goaltender's shaky record against Edmonton in the playoffs.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I didn't blame it all on Jake, but the reality is, if you go back to last year's playoffs, he's lost six of seven games to Edmonton," DeBoer <a href="https://thescore.com/news/3293438">said</a>. "And we give up two (goals) on two (shots) in an elimination game. It was partly to spark our team and wake them up, and partly knowing that (the) status quo had not been working. That's a pretty big sample size."</p><p>Nill made it clear he didn't have an issue with DeBoer's decision to pull Oettinger.</p><p>"I got no problem with the pull, at all," Nill said. "If you're coaching, just let two goals in, you gotta change momentum in that. To change the goalie, I've got no problem with that at all."</p><p>Nill did, however, feel DeBoer mishandled things postgame.</p><p>"I think everybody (had an issue with DeBoer's comments)," Nill said. "I think even Pete, a little bit remorseful of it, a little bit. I don't think he handled it the way he wanted to. But you gotta remember you're under the duress, the pressure of everything going on in that."</p><p>DeBoer lost in the conference finals in all three of his seasons as head coach of the Stars, and Nill realizes that making it that far again is a success despite the disappointment of failing to reach the Cup Final again.</p><p>"It's an amazing business. We got to the third round, and it feels like we've missed the playoffs five years in a row," Nill said. "I find it amazing that mindset, but that's the world we live in nowadays."</p><p>Nill plans on retaining DeBoer's assistants, each of which have one year left on their contract. He added that he'll look both internally and externally for head coaching candidates, and experience isn't a prerequisite.</p><p>The veteran executive also backed DeBoer on his way out of Dallas.</p><p>"Pete's gonna win a Cup," Nill said. "Unfortunately, it won't be here. But he's gonna win a Cup. He's a good coach. And I think he learns every time. He's been fired a few times. I think he's learning each time when that happens."</p>

"I'm eager to build something special and bring a championship to Seattle."</p><p>Carpenter was a foundational signing by New York in 2023, and she was an MVP finalist in 2024 after tying for second in league scoring with 23 points in 24 games.</p><p>Internationally, Carpenter has won seven World Championships with Team USA and claimed silver at the 2014 and 2022 Olympics. She has 24 goals and 58 points in 62 games at the Worlds and eight goals and 12 points in as many Olympic contests.</p>

<p>The Dallas Stars fired head coach Pete DeBoer, the team announced Friday.</p><p>The Stars lost in the Western Conference Final in five games against the Edmonton Oilers, marking the team's third straight playoff exit in the final four.</p><p>"After careful consideration, we believe that a new voice is needed in our locker room to push us closer to our goal of winning the Stanley Cup," Stars general manager Jim Nill <a href="https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/dallas-stars-relieve-pete-deboer-of-head-coaching-duties-060625">said</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>DeBoer came under fire for his decision to bench star goaltender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8282" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8282">Jake Oettinger</a> in Game 5 after he allowed two goals on his first two shots faced.</p><p>Oettinger <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3293990" href="https://thescore.com/news/3293990">called</a> the surprisingly quick hook "embarrassing," and DeBoer said during his end-of-season media availability that he hadn't yet spoken to the goaltender.</p><p>After the Game 5 loss, DeBoer explained part of his reasoning for pulling Oettinger.</p><p>"I didn't blame it all on Jake, but the reality is, if you go back to last year's playoffs, he's lost six of seven games to Edmonton," DeBoer <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3293438" href="https://thescore.com/news/3293438">said</a>. "And we give up two (goals) on two (shots) in an elimination game. It was partly to spark our team and wake them up, and partly knowing that (the) status quo had not been working. That's a pretty big sample size."</p><p>DeBoer had one year left on his contract with the Stars, according to <a href="https://x.com/PierreVLeBrun/status/1931002301067731219">TSN's Pierre LeBrun</a>. Dallas is currently the only team without a head coach after the Boston Bruins hired Marco Sturm on Thursday and the Pittsburgh Penguins tabbed Dan Muse on Wednesday.</p><p>DeBoer guided the Stars to a 149-68-29 record in the regular season. He's reached the conference final in six of the last seven years in which he's coached, a run that includes stints with the San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Stars. However, he hasn't made the Stanley Cup Final since 2016 and has yet to win the Stanley Cup as a head coach.</p><p>DeBoer has been an NHL head coach every season since he was hired by the Florida Panthers in 2008-09. He guided the New Jersey Devils to the Cup Final in 2012 and has made the playoffs in 10 of 14 seasons.</p>

<p>The Montreal Victoire added defender <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15773" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15773">Erin Ambrose</a> to their protection list as part of the PWHL's expansion process, the team announced Thursday.</p><p>The Victoire's fourth and final protection slot was activated after the team lost <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15760" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15760">Cayla Barnes</a> to Seattle and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15766" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15766">Jenn Gardiner</a> to Vancouver.</p><p>Ambrose tallied 13 assists in 28 games this season and added one assist in four playoff contests.
