Ruiz outweighs Joshua by almost 46 pounds heading into rematch
Andy Ruiz Jr. is redefining the meaning of heavyweight coming into his rematch with Anthony Joshua on Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
The 6-foot-2 Ruiz weighed in at 283.7 pounds Friday, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. He's almost 16 pounds heavier than when he shocked the world in June with a seventh-round knockout of Joshua to win three title belts, as Ruiz was then listed at 268.
The 30-year-old Mexican-American fighter is also almost 46 pounds heavier than Joshua, who weighed in at 237.8 pounds at the fight hotel in Riyadh.
Ruiz is the heaviest heavyweight to defend a title since 7-footer Nikolai Valuev fought at 310.75 pounds in the 2000s, according to Rafael.
The WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO heavyweight belts will be on the line when Ruiz (33-1, 22 KOs) and Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs) meet in the first heavyweight world title fight to take place in the Middle East.
