Rangers clinches promotion to Scottish Premiership

Rangers has finally won a spot in the Scottish top-flight after an absence of four years.

The Glaswegian giant edged a 1-0 win over Dumbarton at Ibrox on Tuesday courtesy of defender James Tavernier's 50th minute tap-in, ending a miserable spell in an otherwise trophy-laden history for Rangers.

The club was dropped into the fourth tier of Scottish football after liquidation left its top-flight status going to a vote of rival chairmen. They refused its entry at a meeting in 2012 - only Kilmarnock and Rangers voted in favour of the storied outfit remaining in the division - with Dundee the beneficiary of an additional promotion place from the Championship.

Now an opportunity to add 54 league championships and reignite its rivalry with Celtic on the south side of the River Clyde awaits in 2016-17.
