Report: Manchester United submits world-record bid of £100.4M to sign Pogba

The price tag on Paul Pogba is reportedly entering world record territory.

According to Alan Smith and Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian, Manchester United submitted an increased bid of £100.4 million (€122 million) to sign Pogba, £92 million (€110 million) of which comprises the transfer fee and the remainder of which comprises add-ons. Negotiations are apparently ongoing, however, as Juventus is seeking another £8.4 million (€10 million) in addition to the Red Devils' bid.

Should Juventus sell Pogba for at least £100.4 million, it will break the world record for most expensive transfer, eclipsing the £85.2-million (€100.8-million) transfer fee that Football Leaks said was paid when Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

There's allegedly also the matter of who will pay Mino Raiola, Pogba's agent who is understood to be in line to earn about 20 percent of the transfer's initial fee.

All in all, if United meets all of Juventus' demands, the Red Devils could end up paying as much as £128.8 million (€153.9 million), a number that would not just break, but shatter the world record for most expensive transfer.

Raiola reportedly discussed the terms of a five-year contract with United, and it's acknowledged that the Red Devils have met wage demands. If the transfer goes through, Pogba will apparently earn a basic salary of about £11 million (€13.1 million) plus incentives, while retaining sponsorship and image rights.

On Saturday, it was reported that Juventus signed Gonzalo Higuain until 2020 and will activate his €94-million release clause. But while the two sagas may seem intertwined, the Old Lady allegedly informed United that its signing of the Argentinian forward won't force Pogba to be sold.

Pogba's current contract expires at the end of the 2018-19 season.
