Swansea City's captain isn't leaving Liberty Stadium just yet.
After it was reported on Monday that a £10-million deal had been agreed upon in principle for Ashley Williams to join Everton, a spokesman for Swansea said on Tuesday that the Swans rejected the bid but refused to confirm how much was offered.
"We are not looking to sell him and therefore we have turned down the offer currently on the table," the spokesman said, according to BBC Sport.
Williams is yet to take the pitch in any of Swansea's preseason fixtures. He was reportedly given an extended break after Euro 2016, where he captained Wales to the semi-finals in heroic fashion and a vital equaliser in the Dragons' 3-1 victory over Belgium.
Since transferring to Swansea from Stockport County in 2008 for an apparent fee of £300,000, Williams has evolved into the Swans' poster boy, exemplifying loyalty, resiliency, and leadership.
But in recent years, Williams has established himself as one of the Premier League's elite defenders, showing an understanding of the game that Swansea clearly values given its rejection of Everton's bid.
Two years remain on Williams' contract.
