Report: Arsenal's Iwobi out up to 4 weeks with thigh strain

Arsenal's infirmary is getting a little crowded.

Winger Alex Iwobi could now miss up to a month of action after suffering a thigh strain during last weekend's 4-3 loss to Liverpool, according to ESPN FC's Mattias Karen.

The 20-year-old joins teammates Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, Carl Jenkinson, Aaron Ramsey, and Danny Welbeck on the sidelines. Ramsey went down with his own hamstring issue in the same defeat to Liverpool.

Iwobi and Ramsey required early substitutions in the second half of last Sunday's frenetic contest at Emirates Stadium. The two are now expected to miss Arsenal's next two fixtures against Leicester City and Watford, as well as international matches with Nigeria and Wales, respectively.

Following the loss, Iwobi had expressed hope on Twitter that the injury wasn't serious:

Iwobi played a key role for Arsene Wenger's side toward the end of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign, and featured in the Champions League against Barcelona as a similar injury crisis consumed the club.

There's yet some hope left for the Gunners. Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, and Laurent Koscielny are all slated to return to the lineup for Saturday's trip to visit reigning champion Leicester.
