Manchester United announce signing of Victor Valdes
Manchester United have confirmed that Victor Valdes will indeed be putting on the gloves at Old Trafford.
Valdes, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee back in March, had been in search of a new club since his contract with Barcelona ended at the conclusion of last season.
In October, United manager Louis van Gaal offered the Spanish 'keeper a chance to complete his rehab at Old Trafford as a free agent and he's since been training with the club as he continues to recover from the injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.
"It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United," said Valdes of the deal. "I would like to thank Louis van Gaal and the club for allowing me to do my rehabilitation and to train with the team at the Aon Training Complex.
"From my short time here I can already see this is a very special club. I worked with Louis van Gaal during my time at FC Barcelona and to have the opportunity to work with him here at Manchester United is a dream come true."
Just how Valdes will compete for playing time with David de Gea, whose form this season has cemented him as arguably the top 'keeper in the Premier League, remains to be seen.
Backup shot-stopper Anders Lindegaard, meanwhile, will likely be loaned out to another club in order to ensure that he receives playing time.
