Boras setting up trust fund for Fernandez's unborn daughter
Jose Fernandez's agent is already working hard to ensure his child will be taken care off.
Scott Boras, who delivered a tear-filled eulogy at the Miami Marlins pitcher's funeral Thursday, has already started the process of creating a trust fund for Fernandez's unborn daughter, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
It's expected the Marlins organization will contribute to the fund in some way once it's established. Fernandez's teammates are also ready to donate from their own bank accounts.
"You don't want that baby to be left behind," outfielder Jeff Francoeur told Crasnick. "At the end of the day, that little girl is going to be his one piece of blood and his legacy. If Jose could say one thing to us, it would probably be, 'Make sure my little girl is taken care of.'"
Boras said Fernandez had already taken care of his own estate, with his money and belongings to be given to his mother, Maritza.

Fernandez was excited to become a father - his final Instagram post announced the news - and Francoeur, a father of two, said he was already asking teammates for parenting advice. According to Boras, Fernandez even wrote "Penelope" - the name of his unborn daughter - on one of his gloves after receiving the news.
Though Penelope will never meet her father, Boras praised the Marlins for how the organization has already helped create a lasting image of Fernandez that she can eventually use to connect with her dad.
"The Marlins did a great job so we can build a memory for that child," Boras said. "When she's old enough to understand, we can tell her, 'This is your father. This is who he was. This is how he was revered.'"
