David Ortiz's prediction for who will win the American League East this season may not sit well with Red Sox Nation.

The retired slugger believes rival New York Yankees are the favorite after adding Giancarlo Stanton, and doesn't see how another team could win arguably baseball's toughest division.

"They pretty much stacked the lineup with more power," Ortiz said, according to Nicole Yang of the Boston Globe. "I don't think anyone else in the division can compete with that."

The Red Sox are coming off back-to-back AL East titles, while the Yankees haven't won the division since 2012. New York did come within one game of reaching the World Series last season, however, before losing to the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the ALCS.

Though Ortiz conceded the division, he is still confident that Boston is going to be a postseason team.

"I think the Red Sox are the one team that, as an underdog, is going to be out there exceeding expectations more than usual," he said.

The Red Sox won three World Series and three division titles in Ortiz's 14 seasons in Boston, while the Yankees won seven AL East pennants but just one World Series.
