Mike Scioscia isn't ready to leave the Los Angeles Angels' dugout.

The manager, who was reportedly expected to step down from the position with his contract expiring at season's end, said he wants to return next year.

"I'd like to," the 59-year-old Scioscia said when asked on KLAA-AM radio Monday if he wanted to keep managing, according to the Associated Press' Greg Beacham.

"We'll continue to evaluate things this week," he added. "I'll speak with (Angels owner) Arte (Moreno) and speak with (general manager) Billy (Eppler) and kind of come to a decision. But I think that if you love something, you want to continue to keep doing it. If you can, great. And if it doesn't happen, so be it. But I love the dugout."

Scioscia has been the Angels' manager since 2000. He's helped them win 1,646 games and six division crowns while leading the club to seven playoff appearances and a World Series title in 2002.

The Angels missed the postseason for a fourth consecutive season this year and enter Tuesday five games under .500.

Scioscia believes he can help right the ship.

"I love managing," Scioscia explained. "I love the dugout. I love the challenge of getting the team and getting them going in the right direction. That's something I thoroughly enjoy."
