The New York Yankees announced that Giancarlo Stanton is back in the lineup for a do-or-die Game 5 against the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series on Friday.

Stanton missed the last three contests - all Yankees losses - with a quad issue. He's taking Edwin Encarnacion's spot as the designated hitter and will bat fourth.

The 29-year-old Stanton collected a pair of hits and went deep in New York's Game 1 victory.

It's been a rough year for the 2017 NL MVP, as he hit just three home runs in an injury-filled season. The four-time All-Star only played in 18 regular-season contests while dealing with multiple ailments.

The Yankees trail the Astros 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. The winner of the ALCS will face the Washington Nationals in the World Series.
