Colorado Rockies head trainer Keith Dugger said Troy Tulowitzki's visit to noted surgeon Dr. Williams Meyers will involve "dry needling treatment on his left thigh," according to Nick Groke of the Denver Post.
He will undergo the therapy Monday, which Dugger described as "not very invasive."
Tulowitzki was placed on the 15-day disabled list for a left hip flexor strain but the Denver Post reports the injury is an upper leg strain near his thigh.
The Rockies shortstop flew to Philadelphia on Saturday to consult the same specialist who removed scar tissue from his right groin in 2012.
Via the Post:
Meyers removed scar tissue that was irritating a nerve in his groin.
Tulowitzki’s high thigh strain is not the same injury — but the muscles involved are in the general vicinity. And it’s possible that Tulowitzki was overcompensating and stressing a hip flexor because of the 2012 injury.
Tulowitzki was in attendance for Sunday's series finale between the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. He is eligible to come off the DL on Aug. 5.
