Impact player of the game: Gausman's relief effort helps Orioles get back in game

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

While Delmon Young's three-run, pinch-hit double in the eighth inning secured the Orioles' 7-6 win in Game 2, it was right-handed reliever Kevin Gausman who allowed Baltimore the opportunity to recover from an early deficit.

Gausman entered in the fourth inning trailing 5-2 and was tasked with cleaning up after starter Wei-Yin Chen allowed five runs off seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.

The 23-year-old proceeded by striking out Ian Kinsler to end the fourth inning and went on to retire nine of the first 10 batters he faced. Gausman's effort spanned 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run off three hits while striking out five before departing in the eighth.

It's the first time this season that Gausman has been used out of the bullpen. In 20 starts during the regular season, the fourth overall pick in 2012 posted a 7-7 record to go with a 3.57 ERA.
