Cubs, Maddon agree to 5-year deal
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports
The Chicago Cubs will introduce Joe Maddon as the 54th manager in franchise history Monday, as the club is set to announce a five-year deal with the veteran skipper who unexpectedly left the Tampa Bay Rays last month.
Maddon's new deal is reportedly worth $25 million with bonuses tied to the postseason, according to ESPN's Buster Olney, who notes that his contract does not contain an opt-out clause.
The two-time American League Manager of the Year is set to replace Rick Renteria, who was fired last week after just one season as manager of the Cubs.
