Reds' Latos had stem cell surgery on right elbow
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Mat Latos went under the knife again.
Latos recently had surgery on his right elbow, hoping it would fix the residual effects he experienced from a previous operation. He had stem cells put into the elbow to regrow tissue and cartilage, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN.
The 26-year-old Latos underwent surgery last offseason to remove bone spurs from the same elbow.
He then underwent a knee operation this past offseason and didn't make his 2014 debut until June.
Knee and elbow issues limited him to 102 1/3 innings, the fewest he has logged since 2009. It snapped a string of back-to-back 200-plus-inning seasons, but Latis was still effective when he took to the mound. He had a 3.25 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 16 starts.
