Dodgers on list of potential destinations for Casey Janssen
Casey Janssen might be longing for a return to his native California after spending his entire major league career with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 33-year-old free agent told MLB Network Radio on Thursday that the Los Angeles Dodgers are on the list of teams he'd like to play for while mentioning that playing close to home is something that interests him.
Janssen, a fourth-round selection out of UCLA in 2004, seemed primed for a lucrative, multi-year deal after cruising through the first half of the 2014 campaign. Despite modest strikeout numbers, Janssen crafted a 1.23 ERA while notching 14 saves through his first 23 outings last season while limiting opponents to a .491 on-base plus slugging.
The eight-year veteran unraveled, though, after battling a bout of food poisoning during the All-Star break, managing a 6.46 ERA while allowing six home runs in 23 2/3 innings over his final 27 appearances in 2014.
Janssen finished the campaign with an unsightly 3.94 ERA, his highest since 2009, while posting the ninth-worst strikeout rate (14.6 percent) among American League relievers with at least 40 innings pitched.
