Masterson stumbled in 19 starts last season with the Cleveland Indians, authoring a 5.51 ERA in 128 2/3 innings before being dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals.
His misfortunes continued there, as he was transitioned to the bullpen and ultimately left off the Cardinals' Division Series roster.
Masterson's best work came in two seasons with Boston, where he threw 160 1/3 total innings and finished with a 3.79 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.
