Report: Hanley Ramirez on Red Sox's radar
The Boston Red Sox have interest in free-agent shortstop Hanley Ramirez, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Ramirez is open to moving to third base or left field, which has made him an attractive alternative for the Red Sox should they be unable to reach a deal with Pablo Sandoval.
The Red Sox originally signed Ramirez as an amateur free agent in 2000, but sent him to the then Florida Marlins in 2005 in a deal that brought Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell the other way.
Despite battling health issues, Ramirez is arguably the best free-agent position player on the open market. The 30-year-old hit .283/.369/.448 with 13 home runs and 71 RBIs in 2014, but was limited to 128 games due to numerous ailments.
Boston is in need of a significant upgrade after receiving a league-worst .211 average last season from the third base position.
