Marlins haven't discussed extension with Steve Cishek
The Miami Marlins are currently exploring contract extensions with several of their young stars - including a reported 13-year, $325-million deal with outfielder Giancarlo Stanton - but the club has yet to broach a long-term deal with closer Steve Cishek.
Cishek, a former fifth-round draft pick who recorded a career-high 39 saves in 2014, said Friday on MLB Network Radio that no extension talks have taken place with the Marlins.
The 28-year-old right-hander is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter and remains under team control through the 2017 campaign. He's projected to earn $6.9 million this season, however, after qualifying as a Super 2 player one year ago.
Cishek fashioned a career-worst 3.17 ERA over 67 appearances last season, but managed a gaudy 30.6 percent strikeout rate, easily a career-high, while allowing just three home runs over 65 1/3 innings.
