Puig could land on DL with sore hamstring
The Los Angeles Dodgers have downplayed the severity of outfielder Yasiel Puig's sore left hamstring. But manager Don Mattingly said Sunday that a trip to the disabled list remains a possibility for the eccentric 24-year-old.
Puig sat out Sunday's 7-0 win over the Colorado Rockies, the fourth game in five contests he's missed because of the hamstring issue. He played Saturday, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The Dodgers are off Monday, giving Puig another day to recover, before traveling to San Francisco to begin a three-game set against the division-rival Giants.
Los Angeles's medical team will determine the next step for the Cuban star.
"To be honest, if they say DL, I'm fine with it," Mattingly told reporters. "I like the way Andre (Ethier) is playing. I'm not pushing to get Yasiel in the lineup. We've got guys in Triple-A swinging the bat. If medical says DL, it's DL."
Puig's hitting .267/.353/.533 with two homers through seven games.
The first-place Dodgers have won seven straight contests and sit 1.5 games up on the San Diego Padres in the National League West.
