Marlins owner on Mike Redmond: 'He's the manager. Period.'
Less than one week after he declined to give Mike Redmond a public vote of confidence, Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria threw his support behind the beleaguered skipper following Sunday's 6-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.
"He's the manager. Period," Loria told Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. "All teams go through bad moments. Ours came early."
Redmond's future with the Marlins became a contentious subject after a report in the Miami Herald suggested his job might be in jeopardy following a 3-10 start to the 2015 campaign. Loria, though, praised Redmond after the Marlins secured a fifth straight victory Sunday to improve to 8-11.
"He did a very nice job last year, and he works hard," said Loria.
Though Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported Wednesday that Loria was actively reviewing his team's managerial situation, the maligned owner said Sunday that team brass have had no serious discussions about replacing Redmond.
