Pirates' McCutchen collects 1,000th career hit
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports
One thousand down, two thousand to go.
Andrew McCutchen's infield single in the top of the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs gave him 1,000 hits for his career. The Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder, who earlier connected on a two-run triple to deep center, entered the series finale needing just two hits for the round-number milestone.

Roberto Clemente and Honus Wagner are the only players in team history to collect 3,000 hits in a Pirates uniform.
