Dodgers' Ryu undergoes season-ending shoulder surgery
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu is expected to be ready for the start of spring training after undergoing surgery Thursday to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The arthroscopic procedure was performed in Los Angeles by orthopedist Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
"As good as it could possibly be," said Mattingly, who described it as an exploratory operation to clean up Ryu's damaged labrum. "It sounded like a really good result."
Ryu, who was shut down earlier this month after showing diminished velocity during spring training, is the second Dodgers starter to undergo season-ending surgery.
Brandon McCarthy, who signed a four-year, $48-million contract with the Dodgers this past winter, is likely out until next summer after having Tommy John surgery to repair a UCL tear in his throwing elbow.
