Rockies' Lyles could skip next start due to sprained toe

Colorado Rockies starter Jordan Lyles doesn't know if he'll make his next scheduled start.

"I'm not sure if I'm going on the road trip yet," he said Sunday.

The right-hander was forced to exit his Saturday start against the San Francisco Giants early. Lyles landed awkwardly on his left foot after delivering a pitch, enough to sprain his toe and sideline him for the game.

"I just over-extended my big toe and something popped," Lyles said. "Hopefully I will try to be out there for my next start, like I did last time with my hand."

Lyles was referencing the bruise he sustained on his right hand after being hit by an Albert Pujols comebacker on May 12. Lyles got over it and was able to make his next start five days later.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss said no decision has been made in terms of when Lyles will pitch next. For now, it's a step-by-step process.

"As far as the status of his next start, we aren't sure yet," Weiss said. "There are some things that have to happen. He has to throw his side (session), and those are determining factors."
