Marlins option struggling Cishek to Double-A
Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports
The struggles that Miami Marlins right-hander Steve Cishek has endured this season have cost him plenty.
Cishek was stripped of the closer's role in mid-May following a fourth blown save, and on Monday, the team optioned him to Double-A Jacksonville.
The 28-year-old converted 73 saves from 2013-14, while posting a 2.73 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 135 innings. Cishek, however, never seemed to get settled this season and heads back to the minors for the first time since 2011 in an attempt to get straightened out.
In 19 appearances this season, Cishek is 1-5 with a 6.98 ERA and 1.86 WHIP.
