It was a roller coaster of emotions for New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia on Sunday.

In the fifth inning against the Los Angeles Angels, MLB's active strikeout leader notched his 2,500th career punchout.

Moments later, both he and manager Joe Girardi found themselves ejected for arguing balls and strikes, in what was an otherwise entertaining debacle.

After inducing an inning-ending double play in the top half of the sixth, Sabathia was ejected after showing frustration with Dan Bellino's strike zone. The incident began when he asked where his 1-1 slider to Kole Calhoun missed.

Sabathia thought it was a strike, Bellino didn't, and after reviewing the game tape, the lefty is sticking to his guns.

"It was a strike. I've seen the pitch," Sabathia told reporters after the 6-2 win. "All I was trying to figure out was where he was calling that pitch, if it was down or not. He'd been calling it all day.

"I guess he didn't want me to ask him."

Following Sabathia's ejection, Girardi lost it, jumping over the dugout fence to get in Bellino's face while pushing Sabathia away.

"We just want consistency, that's all," Girardi said. "So to throw my pitcher out for asking where a pitch is without giving him enough, I have a problem with that."
