Report: Astros, Cubs among teams chasing Padres' Ross

The San Diego Padres continue to attract suitors looking to pry away their pitching assets.

Tyson Ross remains one of the more coveted arms believed to be available ahead of this week's trade deadline, with the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs among the teams pursuing the right-handed starter, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Ross, 28, is attractive to clubs hoping to acquire a pitcher under contract at a reasonable price. He's owed less than half of his $5.25-million salary for 2015, and is arbitration-eligible for the next two seasons.

The Padres are reportedly in sell mode after a frenzied offseason that saw them revamp their roster through several blockbuster trades and free-agent signings. Craig Kimbrel, Justin Upton, and Andrew Cashner are among key Padres believed to be on the trading block.
