Mets captain David Wright returned to light baseball activities this week, and general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters Thursday that the injured third baseman will be back in New York after the weekend to increase his workload.
The seven-time All-Star has been on the disabled list since April 15, when he succumbed to a right hamstring strain before being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column.
Wright, 32, has appeared in only eight games this season, and Alderson said there is no timetable for his return. He does, however, expect Wright to play again in 2015.
New York is currently three games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East and could certainly use the two-time Silver Slugger's bat in the lineup.
