Samardzija dominates Indians ahead of trade deadline
Jeff Samardzija put on a show for scouts attending Thursday's contest between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians, spinning eight innings of one-run ball in a 4-1 victory.
The righty scattered four hits and struck out three in what might have been his last start in a White Sox uniform.
Samardzija will become a free agent at season's end and is one of the elite starters rumored to be on the move prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
"It's not really a big deal," he said. "All I can do is go out and increase my value as much as possible and make both sides come out on top. The better I play the better the White Sox will get in return if they do trade me and it's better for me to go to a better situation, but that's out of my hands."
The 30-year-old is no stranger to changing uniforms after being traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Oakland Athletics at last year's deadline. The White Sox then acquired the hurler from Oakland last December.
Samardzija has thrown at least seven innings in nine consecutive starts and has allowed only six earned runs in 31 2/3 innings in his last four.
