MLB Today: Greinke streak on hold, Porcello faces former team

A look at what's happening all around the major leagues Friday:

NO ZZZZZS FOR ZACK

Zack Greinke's scoreless streak is on hold after the Los Angeles Dodgers ace returned to LA to wait with his wife for the birth of their first child. Greinke has pitched 43 2/3 shutout innings and was set to start Friday night vs. the Mets in New York. Manager Don Mattingly says there's still a chance Greinke will pitch this weekend at Citi Field.

WELCOME ABOARD

Scott Kazmir starts for the hometown Houston Astros, a day after they got him in a trade with Oakland Athletics. The 31-year-old lefty joins his new club and pitches at Kansas City. He was 5-5 with a 2.38 ERA in 18 starts for the A's.

TRY AGAIN

Detroit Tigers star Justin Verlander makes his seventh start of the year, still aiming for his first win. The former AL MVP and Cy Young winner began the season on the disabled list and has a 6.62 ERA so far. He'll pitch at Fenway Park against former Tigers teammate Rick Porcello.

SET THOSE CLOCKS

The New York Yankees open a 10-game trip when they face former teammate Phil Hughes and the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. After this road swing to Minnesota, Texas and the Chicago White Sox, the AL East leaders aren't scheduled to leave the Eastern time zone for the rest of the regular season.

GOLDEN GATERS

Jake Peavy, who earned his first win of the season in his last outing, starts for the San Francisco Giants against A's righty Jesse Chavez in the Bay Bridge Series opener at San Francisco.
