The 162-game suspension handed down to reliever Jenrry Mejia has left New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson upset, but not scrambling.

Alderson pulled the trigger on a deal to acquire right-hander Tyler Clippard from the Oakland Athletics on Monday, and learned less than 24 hours later that he would lose Mejia for the remainder of the season following a positive test for anabolic steroids.

While there's still time to acquire a reliever prior to Friday's non-waiver trade deadline, Alderson doesn't believe there will be another deal made.

"I'd be surprised if we go after somebody else at this point," Alderson told reporters. "We were able to accomplish an upgrade in experience, which was the essential thing we were looking to do."

The Mets' closer in 2014, Mejia has been limited to just 7 1/3 innings after already serving an 80-game suspension for another positive test.

"Not surprisingly, there's a tremendous amount of disappointment - I think to some extent anger, to some extent amazement - that this could happen so soon after a previous suspension was completed. And some sadness," Alderson said.

Clippard provides manager Terry Collins with an excellent weapon out of the pen, as the right-hander owns a 2.72 ERA to go with 38 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings this season.

"It's unfortunate that we don't have ultimately what we had hoped to have in terms of depth but we like the bottom half of our bullpen," Alderson said. "And fortunately because of what our starters are able to do we don't see the bottom half that often."
