PHOTO: Giants send congratulatory pizzas to Royals
The San Francisco Giants understand what it's like to be World Series champions, so they decided to send some tasty congratulations to the newly crowned MLB champions, the Kansas City Royals.
In a nice gesture on Monday, San Francisco sent the Royals' entire front office lunch, courtesy of Kansas City-based Minsky's Pizza. The Giants were reportedly paying it forward after the 2013 champs - the Boston Red Sox - started the pizza-buying tradition last year, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News.
Minsky's posted a statement on their website about the excitement they felt delivering the pizzas to the champs:
"The San Francisco Giants just called - and they want to send 25 pizzas to Kauffman Stadium for the Royals and their staff," said Kenny Kantner, manager and partner for Minsky's at 51st and Main. It was a pretty exciting moment - especially when the Giants wanted to include this note: 'Have fun planning the parade - and enjoy the ride!'"
After last year's close final game, it was quite the classy move from the Giants, the Royals 2014 World Series adversary (and eventual world champions).
Within an hour after the call, Minsky's steaming hot pizzas were on their way to Kauffman Stadium! Some lucky Royals staff members who were busy planning the parade were first to enjoy KC's best pizzas while they waited for the Royals to arrive home.
One staffer summed it up pretty well: "Today has been nuts and you all are LIFE SAVERS!"
The Giants and Royals met in the 2014 World Series, and if recent history is any indication, San Francisco should win the Fall Classic next year as they've won the game's biggest prize in every even-numbered year since 2010 (including 2012 and 2014).
