White expects McGregor deal to be done in a few days; Mayweather talks next

Combat sports' next superfight is one step closer to fruition.

Conor McGregor's bout agreement for a date with Floyd Mayweather will be complete in a few days, UFC president Dana White told Colin Cowherd of "The Herd" on Wednesday, and hammering out a deal with the boxer's team is White's next order of business.

"I think we get the McGregor side in the next couple of days," White said, according to Shaun Al-Shatti of MMA Fighting. "And then I go lock myself in a room for a couple days with Team Mayweather and see what we can come out with."

White expects McGregor and Mayweather will make $75 million and $100 million, respectively, depending on "how much the fight sells."

While the UFC boss refused to get his hopes up about the Mayweather negotiations , McGregor took a moment to announce he was grateful for the bank he's made, a year to the day after he practically broke the internet by announcing his retirement.

A date has yet to be attached to the long-discussed matchup. The Irishman is expecting his first child in May and has set his sights on a September showdown, while Mayweather recently suggested a June date in Moscow. However, White did confirm McGregor and Mayweather would lock horns in a boxing ring, not a cage.

"This is isn't going to be UFC. It's going to be a boxing match. It's not going to have anything to do with the UFC," White said. "My brand, the closest thing my brand will be to this, is obviously I'll be a part of the promotion for the fight, and Conor's my guy. That's it."
