Report: Shevchenko-Carmouche to headline UFC Fight Night in August
Coming off her epic head-kick knockout of Jessica Eye at UFC 238, Valentina Shevchenko will defend her flyweight championship against Liz Carmouche on Aug. 10 at UFC Fight Night in Uruguay, sources told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
The two fighters battled in September 2010 at a regional show in Oklahoma, during which Carmouche handed Shevchenko her first professional MMA defeat.
Carmouche is one of only two fighters to emerge victorious from a fight with the flyweight queen; the other being Amanda Nunes, who defeated Shevchenko twice.
Shevchenko (17-3) captured the flyweight belt in December when she defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk via unanimous decision. She'll look for a second successful title defense at Antel Arena in Montevideo.
Carmouche (13-6), meanwhile, has won four of her last five fights, with the most recent victory coming via unanimous decision against Lucie Pudilova in February. She was originally scheduled to face Roxanne Modaferri on July 13, but the UFC will now seek another opponent to fill out the Rafael dos Anjos-Leon Edwards-headlined card.
