EBay removes listing for 'air' from Kobe's last game after bidding reaches $15K
Fans are clamoring for any piece of memorabilia they can get their hands on to commemorate Kobe Bryant's epic, 60-point NBA finale in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
In the run-up to the game, before the Lakers even had any inkling Bryant would sniff 20 points, let alone 60, they were selling limited-edition Bryant retirement hats inlaid with 3 1/2 ounces of 18-karat gold for $38,000 a pop. There were also diamond-studded hats to be had for $24,000 and snakeskin jerseys for over $400. During the game, the Lakers sold a record $1.2 million worth of merchandise.
But no piece of merch could adequately capture the feeling in the air at Staples Center that night. So, one fan tried to literally do just that. The prescient fan captured a Ziploc full of air from the building, and put it up for auction on eBay, with a starting price of $1.
Even given the insane prices fans have proved willing to pay for tickets or keepsakes, few could have foreseen how high the bidding would eventually climb.
Alas, the $15,300-bag of breeze got on eBay's radar, and the site promptly pulled the item from its catalogue.
Pity.
