Wade unconcerned about contract heading into free agency
With four starters set to hit the open market this July, Pat Riley and the Miami Heat will likely be forced to make a number of difficult decisions.
And while the high degree of uncertainty remains a concern for Heat fans, All-Star shooting guard Dwyane Wade isn't likely to lose any sleep over it.
"I think I've been around long enough not to expect anything going into the summer," Wade told The Miami Herald's Manny Navarro.
Wade is far from the only Heat starter set to become a free agent, as Hassan Whiteside, Joe Johnson, and Luol Deng will all be looking for new contracts come July. With the salary cap projected to rise north of $90 million, dozens of teams will likely be vying for their services, making it even more difficult for Miami to retain all four.
"That's always a thing going into the summer - it's always the unknown of what a team is going to be when you don't have a lot of guys under contract, when your whole team is not under contract," Wade added. "One thing I do know is that in the 13 years I've been here - and the years after I leave - the Miami Heat will always try to put a winning team on the court. I think it's always safe to say that."
At 34 years old, 2016 will likely mark the final time Wade can cash in on a large multi-year deal. However, with approximately $40 million in cap room remaining to re-sign four starters, he may once again be forced to take a hometown discount to ensure Miami remains competitive.
