Report: Paul George to play for Team USA in Rio
Paul George has accepted an invitation to suit up for the U.S. Olympic team in Rio, a source told Marc Spears of ESPN's The Undefeated, capping a remarkable comeback for the Indians Pacers forward, who suffered a horrific leg injury during a USA Basketball scrimmage just two summers ago.
George's injury - which included a compound fracture of both bones in his right leg - kept the three-time All-Star sidelined for almost the entire 2014-15 season, and prompted USA Basketball executive director Jerry Colangelo to promise him an Olympic spot, according to Spears.
Earlier this month, George told the Indy Star's Nate Taylor that he intended to play in Rio despite a growing list of NBA stars opting to skip the international tournament.
The 26-year-old returned to his All-Star form this season, averaging a career-high 23.1 points, seven rebounds, and 4.1 assists for the playoff-bound Pacers.
