Report: Mavs, Nowitzki agree to 2-year, $40M deal
The Dallas Mavericks have come to terms on the framework of a new two-year, $40-million deal with free-agent power forward Dirk Nowitzki, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Finer details of the contract are reportedly still being finalized, but it's believed that Nowitzki will be given a player option for the second season.
The 13-time All-Star opted out of his $8.7-million player option with the Mavericks last month, and was able to get paid appropriately after Dallas whiffed on several big names early in free agency.
In 75 games this past season, the 7-foot German averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.7 steals on 44.8 percent shooting and 36.8 percent from deep.
Nowitzki joins Dwight Powell, Deron Williams, Harrison Barnes, and Seth Curry as Dallas' newest free-agent additions.
