Heat make Whiteside signing official
Less than 24 hours after Dwyane Wade informed the Miami Heat that he wouldn't be re-signing, the organization officially locked up their new face of the franchise.
Hassan Whiteside put pen to paper on a new contact Thursday to remain in Miami. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though it is believed that the two sides agreed to a four-year, $98-million deal.
The 27-year-old has emerged as one of the top shot-blocking centers in the league after swatting an NBA-best 269 shots last season, and had numerous suitors during his brief stint on the open market this summer.
The Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and Portland Trail Blazers were all believed to have some interest in Whiteside before he announced over The Players' Tribune that he would remain in South Beach.
Whiteside averaged 14.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks in 73 games last season.
