Bulls officially sign Dwyane Wade to reported 2-year, $47.5M contract
Dwyane Wade is coming home to The Windy City.
The All-Star guard has signed with the Chicago Bulls, the team announced Friday. The deal will reportedly be worth $47.5 million over two years.
"We are thrilled that Dwyane has decided to come to Chicago," Bulls general manager Gar Forman said in the team's statement. "It’s not often you get the opportunity to add a three-time champion and 12-time All Star to your roster. We are delighted he has decided to become a Bull, as he provides a great veteran perspective on the court and in the locker room. He will be a tremendous fit with our team."
The Bulls needed to do some intricate financial maneuvering to make Wade's signing a reality, sending away Mike Dunleavy to the Cleveland Cavaliers and point guard Jose Calderon - who they acquired in a trade with the New York Knicks that shipped off Derrick Rose to The Big Apple - to the Los Angeles Lakers to create the necessary cap room.
Wade, 34, has spent the past 13 seasons in South Beach with the Miami Heat after going fifth overall in the 2003 NBA draft. During his time with the organization, Wade made a pair of All-NBA First Teams, three All-NBA Second and Third teams, and earned himself a scoring title in 2009.
He ends his tenure with the Heat as the team's all-time leader in games played, points, assists, steals, and offensive win shares.
In 74 games during the 2015-16 campaign, Wade averaged 19 points on 45.6 percent shooting, 4.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.1 steals with a player efficiency rating of 20.3.
