Towns confident he'll develop into best player on the planet
Like most of the NBA, Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns has a great degree of confidence in his abilities as a basketball player.
After his outstanding Rookie of the Year campaign, Towns was asked whether he believed he could develop into the best player in the world one day, a question he responded to with supreme conviction.
"I honestly do," Towns told Jon Hale of the Courier Journal. "I have the confidence in myself. I have everything I think to do it. Now it's all up to me, to execute. Everyone in the NBA has the ability to do that. We all have the ability to be the best player in the world. Just matters who puts more time and puts more work in and who's more fortunate enough to make it happen with the right situation. I feel that Minnesota right now gives me one of the best situations in all of the NBA."
While the 7-footer has some lofty goals, Towns showed his immense potential during his first professional season, averaging 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks on 54.2 percent shooting.
Even if Towns expects to become the league's best, the 20-year-old remains humble about his current place in the NBA, choosing to shy away from the "star" label for now.
"I don't look at myself as an NBA star," Towns said. "I'm definitely a player. I've worked hard to make that my title. But I think what the kid learned was always be humble and always enjoy humility. That was a great chance for me to instill a good moral value."
