Cavs officially sign LeBron to reported 3-year, $100M deal
The Cleveland Cavaliers officially signed three-time NBA champion LeBron James to a multi-year contract Friday.
The 6-foot-8 forward announced his decision to re-sign with the Cavaliers on Thursday, reportedly agreeing to a three-year, $100-million contract.
"We are very fortunate to have a championship group together," general manager David Griffin said in a press release. "One that has grown organically to trust, and sacrifice for one another - on and off the floor. At the core of that group is LeBron. His leadership, passion, and tireless commitment are the hallmarks of our success and have inspired our entire franchise."
While it took a while to lock James up, there was never any doubt that the four-time MVP would return to Northeast Ohio. The 31-year-old is coming off a championship-winning season, leading the Cavaliers to their first title in franchise history.
In 76 games this past season, James averaged 25.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 52 percent from the floor. He also finished third in MVP voting behind Steph Curry and Kawhi Leonard.
With James now officially signed, the Cavaliers will likely turn their efforts toward re-signing J.R. Smith.
