Report: Thabeet seeking NBA comeback, several teams interested
Hasheem Thabeet is better known for players he was drafted ahead of than for anything he accomplished after being selected second overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2009.
After being plucked before the likes of James Harden, Steph Curry, DeMar DeRozan, Ricky Rubio, and Jrue Holiday, Thabeet averaged just 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in parts of five seasons split between four teams. He hasn't played in the NBA since 2014.
But Thabeet's size - which got him drafted so high in the first place - will always make him somewhat enticing to NBA teams. There are several interested in the 7-foot-3 center as he ponders a comeback, according to Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times.
Thabeet, now 29, last played for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Though he failed to master the nuances of NBA defense, and will never be agile or fleet of foot, the Tanzania-born UConn product always had keen shot-blocking instincts. He averaged 2.8 blocks per 36 minutes across 224 NBA games.
