Byron Scott: 'I don't have a relationship' with Lakers' Russell
There's no love lost between D'Angelo Russell and his former coach Byron Scott.
The Los Angeles Lakers point guard has been generous in his praise of new head coach Luke Walton, while seeming to slight his predecessor.
Unsurprisingly, Scott didn't appreciate that, and no longer communicates with last year's No. 2 overall pick.
"I don't have a relationship with D'Angelo," he told TMZ on Friday, before adding he doesn't need one.
"It is what it is."
Scott also insisted he's unaffected by the veiled shots the 20-year-old has directed at him.
"(It) doesn't bother me at all," he said. "My track record with guards speaks for itself, so I don't pay it really no attention."
That track record spans 15 years as an NBA head coach, and includes work with elite point guards like Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, and Kyrie Irving. He's led two teams to the Finals, was named the 2007-08 Coach of the Year, and has an overall winning percentage of .412.
However, Scott - who won three championships with the Lakers as a player in the '80s - experienced far less success with the franchise on the sidelines. He was axed in April following two seasons in which Los Angeles accumulated a 38-126 record.
The 55-year-old had difficulty managing the younger players like Russell, who suggested earlier this month that, instead of being involved with players, Scott just sat back while other members of his staff trained them.

While Russell prepares to lead the Kobe Bryant-less Lakers in 2016-17, Scott will continue to enjoy his life with no plans to coach in the NBA any time soon.
