Riley dares Whiteside to draw up his own plays

Hassan Whiteside didn't do himself any favors with his comments following Tuesday's double-overtime defeat to the Orlando Magic.

Despite setting a career high in shot attempts, the Miami Heat center still found himself unsatisfied with his workload, publicly venting about his lack of touches down the stretch.

Team president Pat Riley fired back at the 7-footer Wednesday, calling him out for a lack of professionalism.

"What Hassan should do is walk in with a clipboard and a pen and diagram some plays he likes. I'm sure his coach will be amenable," he said sarcastically to Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald.

"You have to keep those kinds of things, especially in the beginning, to yourself," Riley added to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Whiteside has been one of the Heat's lone bright spots this season, averaging career highs in points (18.1), rebounds (14.8), and assists (0.7). While the 27-year-old will need to continue to improve to officially earn the franchise player label, Riley has been impressed with what he's seen so far.

"To be a franchise player you have to be an all-of-the-time franchise player and I think he's on his way," he said.
