Report: Kings have inquired about Suns' Knight since summer
The Sacramento Kings have their eyes on the prize, and that prize is seemingly Phoenix Suns point guard Brandon Knight.
Sacramento has continuously inquired about Knight's availability dating all the way back to the summer, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
General manager Ryan McDonough has said he doesn't intend to move Knight before the Feb. 23 trade deadline, although the reported belief around the NBA is that Knight will be moved.
Sacramento's combination of Darren Collison and Ty Lawson has brought mixed results at best for new head coach Frank Vogel, as neither guard is a particularly strong shooter, playmaker, or defender. Knight has similar shortcomings, so it remains to be seen how much of an upgrade he'd be over what the Kings currently have.
Knight is the odd man out in Phoenix's backcourt with Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker soaking up minutes as the starters and team's leading scorers. It's easy to assume Knight is expendable under those circumstances, yet his offense for the second unit - as sloppy as it may be on occasion - has proved valuable for the league's sixth-ranked bench mob.
In 30 appearances, the 25-year-old is averaging 13 points, albeit on 39 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from the perimeter. He's also contributing 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 24 minutes for the 9-21 Suns.
