Report: Nets could pursue Otto Porter next summer
Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks' track record in signing restricted free agents isn't great, but that reportedly won't deter him from going after one yet again next summer.
The feeling within the Washington Wizards organization is that Brooklyn will make a push to sign forward Otto Porter, who will become a restricted free agent at the end of the regular season, according to the New York Post's Brian Lewis.
After going third overall in the 2013 NBA draft to the nation's capital, Porter struggled mightily in living up to his draft slot during his first two years on the job. His defensive intangibles kept him on the floor, although his lack of an offensive game limited him a great deal.
He has taken reasonable strides each and every year, though, leading him to what's been his strongest run to date early on in the 2016-17 campaign. Porter has boosted his shooting percentages to a career-high 54.8 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the arc while also averaging 14.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 33.7 minutes per game.
Marks whiffed on landing both Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe after inking them to offer sheets, with their respective clubs eventually matching. He even tried to bring forward Donatas Motiejunas on board, but the Houston Rockets prevented that from happening before eventually renouncing his rights in the end.
Brooklyn currently owns the NBA's worst record at 8-24, having lost its last two outings and seven of its last eight.
