Wade doesn't see Melo waiving no-trade clause
The New York Knicks have lost nine of their last 11 games, planting the team firmly in 10th place in the East and igniting trade buzz.
Knicks star Carmelo Anthony owns a no-trade clause and, as the New York Daily News' Daniel Popper notes, the 32-year-old is running out of time to go on a championship run.
Close friend Dwyane Wade, who made the transition to the Chicago Bulls this summer after winning three titles in Miami (two with LeBron James), doesn't think Melo is going anywhere.
"He loves it here. He loves being here. His family loves it here. And he wants to win here," Wade told Popper at Thursday's shootaround. "He's going to be here as long as they want him here - win, lose or draw."
A nine-time All-Star, Anthony has been in New York since leaving the Denver Nuggets in 2011. The Knicks reached the playoffs in his first three seasons, but have struggled to contend since.
In 2014, Anthony told the team he would opt out of his contract to pursue free agency, and ended up re-signing to stay in New York three weeks later in a reported five-year deal.
"You want your friends to have success, and it's been a little rough from that standpoint," Wade said. "It's cool for me and (Chris Paul) and Bron that we all try to stay connected and keep each other uplifted, because it's tough going through losing seasons and injury-plagued seasons and all that, which he's dealt with the last couple years. Yeah man, it's tough."
