Watch: KD seems uncomfortable with Warriors owner's joke about re-signing
During Monday's ceremony commemorating breaking ground on the new area, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob cracked a joke about Kevin Durant, who's expected to opt out of his current deal following the season.
"Having this arena is not only great for the city of San Francisco," Lacob said. "It's great for us as business operators, but it's great for our basketball team. Kevin Durant came here without a new arena. Thank you, Kevin. And also for agreeing to re-sign this summer."
As awkward as that was, it didn't deter someone else from jokingly asking KD if he's planning to stay in the Bay Area past this year, according to ESPN's Ethan Strauss.
"It'll be fun playing in there," the forward replied after glancing at the arena rendering, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
The Dubs are expected to move into Chase Arena ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
