Report: Bulls shopping Rondo, Mirotic
The Chicago Bulls may be looking to upgrade their roster in hopes of making a playoff push.
The team has been shopping embattled point guard Rajon Rondo and power forward Nikola Mirotic, sources told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
However, neither player is attracting the return sought by general manager Gar Forman and the front office, which an unnamed source says "tends to overvalue its assets."
It's not exactly surprising that Rondo's trade value is low. The former All-Star lost his starting gig in December and racked up some DNP-CDs before telling the media he'll "absolutely" ask to be moved if he remains in coach Fred Hoiberg's doghouse.
He's got some burn off the bench since then, but overall his run in the Windy City isn't what he signed up for. He's averaging just 6.6. points on 35.9 percent shooting to go along with 6.7 assists and 5.7 boards.
Perhaps even more damaging than the veteran guard's on-court production is his reputation as a controversial locker-room presence. The 30-year-old left Sacramento and Dallas on unpleasant terms before signing with the Bulls last summer.
Meanwhile, following a promising sophomore season, Mirotic has regressed. The big man's numbers are mostly down from 2015-16 - particularly his scoring efficiency: He's putting up just 9.3 points on 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 31.1 percent from long range. His defense hasn't gotten any better, either.
Jimmy Butler, who was recently named an All-Star starter, has reportedly expressed his displeasure with his supporting cast. The Bulls, who are currently eighth in the wide-open East, would be wise to try to keep their best player happy. The trade deadline is Feb. 23.
